The Bell Light Twin Helicopter production and marketing started in February 2005 after an agreement between the Mitsui Bussan and Korea Aerospace Industries. The Bell 429 has a range of advanced technologies that was developed under the modular affordable product line program (MAPL). It includes an aircraft data interface unit (ADIU), advanced main rotor blades, hydraulics as well as an autopilot. It was the helicopter that advanced the use of the MAPL technology by around three years from its initial target date.
